Bago, located 80 kilometres north east of Yangon, was an ancient capital of the Mon Kingdom in the 13th Century. Drive to Bago from Yangon will be about 3 hours. On the way to Bago visit the Htauk Kyant War Memorial Cemetery.
Upon arrival Bago, first visit Kha Khat Wain Monastery and visit the Shwethalyaung Pagoda, a huge reclining Buddha.
Following lunch, visit the highest pagoda in Myanmar the Shwemawdaw Pagoda, take time to wander around the local market and the Kyaik Pun Pagoda, consisting of four 30 metre-high sitting Buddhas.
On the return to Yangon visit a typical pottery village, the lifeblood for many of Myanmar's citizens.
